Job Description:

VVater is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Government Affairs to lead our efforts in managing relationships with government agencies, policymakers, and regulatory bodies. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of government processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence public policy in support of our organizational goals. This role requires a proactive individual who can navigate complex political environments and advocate effectively on behalf of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement strategies to influence public policy and regulatory decisions that impact the organization.
Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, policymakers, and regulatory agencies at the local, state, and federal levels.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, analyze their impact on the organization, and provide strategic advice to senior leadership.
Represent the organization in meetings with government officials, regulatory bodies, industry associations, and other stakeholders.
Draft position papers, policy briefs, and testimony for presentation to government officials and regulatory agencies.
Coordinate and manage the organization’s participation in industry coalitions, trade associations, and other collaborative efforts.
Develop and implement grassroots advocacy initiatives to mobilize stakeholders and influence public policy.
Advise senior leadership on political and regulatory risks and opportunities, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities.
Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, comments, and other required documentation.
Manage and mentor a team of government affairs professionals, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
Ensure compliance with all lobbying, ethics, and disclosure requirements.
Plan and execute government affairs events, including meetings, briefings, and receptions.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, or a related field. A master’s degree or Juris Doctor (JD) is preferred.
Proven experience in government affairs, public policy, or a related field, with a strong track record of influencing public policy and regulatory decisions.
Proven experience in dealing with DoD, FEMA, and other government military or disaster relief branches.
Deep understanding of government processes, legislative and regulatory environments, and public policy issues relevant to the organization.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence decision-makers.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to assess the impact of legislative and regulatory developments on the organization.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
High level of integrity and commitment to ethical conduct.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience in managing and developing a team of professionals.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
